
Ghosts under the surface
This January I began a project using older paintings as a foundation for new works.
Many of these older paintings were incomplete, discarded, or damaged thus making the decision to work over these paintings fairly easy. My goal was to begin a painting with what I call a "given grounding". This way there was an established structure and history, that I would have to deal with while constructing a new image.

Themes reveal themselves over time within my painting practice.
Similar color schemes, compositions, or subjects anchor my work and when I study these characteristics they provide new ideas to further explore.

In the following example what discoveries can you find? In 2012, I painted this work 48in.x 36in. Oil on Canvas. The second work was painted on January 23rd,
