Working in the traditions of early American and European romantic landscape painting, I painted from experience and memory. By creating landscapes based on my own outdoor explorations, I could pull reference from a variety of sites, ultimately creating composite images consisting of both the fictional and representational. Working rapidly with a great deal of instinctive decision-making enabled the majority of theses works to be completed in one session.

Working from background to foreground, new visual discoveries would emerge opening possibilities for the work to take on a individual narrative.  Painting fictional places that reference familiar compositions, enable me to gain access to a fresh perspective, and discover new visual experiences that seem to unveil new connections.
